Children and Young People are usually quite comfortable with working online, Zoom can be a useful alternative to visiting the therapy room. During the current CORVID-19 outbreak many of the traditional creative and play therapies have been adapted for use online and online games (like Animal Crossing, for example) are also used. Worksheets can also be emailed to clients in advance of their sessions (access to a printer is useful). With young children, typically a session will start by exploring their own favourite toys and games (one of the advantages of online therapy).
Usually and iPad or tablet works best with a reliable internet connection (we can check for any issues during the assessment). It's useful to have Play-doh, colouring pens and paper to hand during the sessions. It is also important that you have a quiet room, free from interruptions, so that they child or young person is comfortable with being able to maintain confidentiality.
For some younger children the parents will be encouraged to learn basic therapeutic play, so that they can work with their children to explore difficulties, improve connection and help them process their emotions. You will be sent a list of inexpensive toys that you will need for each session.
Zoom is GDPR compliant and the counsellor's commitment to confidentiality is the same as face-to-face counselling. So everything you tell me online is 100 % confidential (there are exceptions regarding harm to self and others, but this is discussed during the initial assessment and first session).
Cancellations made within 48 hours of the appointment will not be charged but “no shows” and cancellations with less than 48 hours notice will be charged for in full. If you need to cancel your appointment please call (or text) 07535 673665
